Marc Chagall

Born in a modest Jewish family from Byelorussia, Marc Chagall studied art in Saint Petersburg. Inspired by the cubist movement, Chagall painted his memories from Russia and his imaginary visions, which is why most of his works are considered as surrealist. In 1964, he was given the ceiling of the Opera Garnier in Paris. Chagall was consecrated when opened in 1973 a museum bearing his name in Nice. He died nearly a hundred years old in 1985 in Saint Paul de Vence.
