Description

Contemporary dance and opera Contemporary dance is often absent from operatic studies, but since the 1970s it has taken over the lyrical scenes, which it has modified. Christian Gattinoni, questions here the presence and influence of contemporary dance in a large ensemble of operas and retraces, in a brief history, their unequal relationships, present from the outset. The author first focuses on the variety of today's choreographic practices before studying the contribution of the revival of baroque works.
The function of choirs, the doubling of roles between singers and dancers and the interplay of opera between the arts are highlighted. Representing the complementarity of the director and the choreographer, works of modernity are evoked as well as others, more recent, which pay homage to the great figures of the lyric scene or to the most remarkable composers. A final section lists the new forms of total works marking our era, its myths and technologies.
