Les Bateliers Du Rhone
All it took was a moment of inattention in the thick fog that sometimes surrounds the river. One terrible day in 1830, Jérôme Sénéchal, a boatman on the Rhône, as his father and grandfather had been before him, disappeared with his train of "barques" and their cargo. A family, Manon his wife and Antoine their very young son, sinks into ruin. Manon and Antoine will have to build a new life in Caderousse. From the Toulon prison to the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, their destinies intertwine at a time when rebellious women were singled out. Eternal renewal between two worlds, that of the water and that of the earth, in a Provence that holds heavy secrets.
For years, the men have been answering the call to leave and trying to tame the Rhône, while the women, on the banks, wait. But Manon does not have the patience of a sailor's wife. After the tragic death of her husband, she decides to take her life in hand and settles in Caderousse, a small village in Provence, with her son Antoine. But in 1830, it is not very well seen to play the rebel...
"A well-documented saga rich in feelings that the author translates with subtlety by staking out the plot with secrets that are passed on by the women of the family. "L'Est éclair
