Description

This pioneer of industrial design began by designing machine tools, before devoting himself to objects. His projects are always characterized by a global approach that integrates the object into its visual environment. In the 1960s he was close to the New Realists (César, Klein, Arman) and his interests are multiple: cinema, semiology, graphic design, press (he designed the layout of the magazine Art Press)... His production is considerable: furniture such as the TS chair and the Module 400 spiral staircase, the 3T dinner service, the P111 portable television set, watches for Lip, transistors, typewriters and projectors, or the visual identity of Fluoryl, ski boots for Salomon, gasoline cans for Elf and bottles of solar oil for Bergasol... His important contribution to the renewal of transportation is shown through his achievements for the SNCF and the RATP (the Corail train, the TGV and the Eurostar, the RER signage, the Météor metro, the Montmartre funicular), but also the Mexico City and Caracas metros, tramways and buses, and his projects for motorcycles and modular cars. Based on Roger Tallon's very rich archive kept at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, this book presents in detail all of his creations and stands out as a reference work on the designer.
