"My inspiration led me along the coast of Marseilles to the port of Cargo. I did not seek to make a geographical census of all the creeks and harbors of the seaside, but rather a discovery of the sites that it would interest me to paint for their light. As Théodore Rousseau, painter of the Barbizon school, said: "by observing with all the religion of his heart, one does not copy what one sees with mathematical precision, but one feels and translates a real world of which all the fatalities embrace you" (Tiennick Kérével)
