New Orleans, 1961. Louise Soral, a descendant of a Louisiana planter family, is now an old woman in her twilight years. Questioned by her granddaughters who want to know more about life on the plantations in the past, she realizes that her family history will disappear if she does not find the courage to tell them this painful story. With the help of her maid, a woman of color, Louise decides to write down the darkest memories and secrets of her family in the American South. The last witness of a bygone era, her memoirs cover nearly a century of history through three albums tracing the lives of several women on the plantations in the midst of a misogynistic, racist and violent society.
