Jazz, rhythm'n'blues, funk, hip-hop... New Orleans is the crucible of a music that is all its own, which never ceases to surprise by its inventiveness. From the cultures coming from the European settlers, the original Amerindians, or from the African diaspora, emerges a unique mixed sound. Everything that makes up the city can be found in it, from the traditions of the Mardi Gras Indians to social violence or climatic dangers. In one hundred albums, this anthology gives the keys to understand the richness of this urban scene, offering a journey to the heart of the second line and the brass bands: from pioneers like Fats Domino, Little Richard, Louis Armstrong or Dr. John, to today's artists like Jon Batiste or Big Freedia, representative of a queer culture that has found its voice. The selection has two criteria: to represent all styles of music played in New Orleans; and that each piece could not have been born anywhere else.
