Description
The Comité d'Instruction Publique was tasked by the Convention Nationale with reforming the calendar.
Fabre d'Eglantine proposed a new nomenclature in which "the history of the years is told by grains, pastures, plants, fruits and flowers".
The birth of this new calendar was the subject of a decree issued by the Convention Nationale on November 24, 1793.
