Description

Alexandria: Past Futures revisits the ancient megalopolis at the height of its history, highlighting its urban, political, and religious organization as well as some of the many scientific innovations and philosophical thoughts that made it one of the civilizational high points of the ancient world. Playing on multiple temporal layers from antiquity to the present, the exhibition also echoes the dominant narratives of Alexandria, where successive civilizations and political formations of the past have rehearsed visions of the future that are no longer present or are still felt through the city's material culture and built environment.
