DOUGLAS SILVER VASE - FRANÇOIS AZAMBOURG

Did you know? The famous Douglas vase, made from blown glass by the Centre International d'Art Verrier in collaboration with François Azambourg, takes its name from a tree. Made from Douglas fir, it is the mould that gives the glass its characteristic imprint. Chosen for its robustness, this wood burns and deforms piece by piece, at the very moment when the glass is poured to make the vase. The melting temperature of the glass often exceeds a thousand degrees! To mark Douglas's 10th spring, François Azambourg and the Meisenthal glassmakers wanted to celebrate the wood by inviting it to come up with some wild variations. The result is more than 150 unique pieces and ensembles, signed by François Azambourg, on show & for sale at D'Days in the Musée des Arts décoratifs' "1900 Room" from 3 to 14 May 2017.
