Description

Summary:

When on November 5, 2018 two buildings collapsed on Rue d'Aubagne in Marseille, taking eight lives and provoking the anger of the neighbors, it was an entire political apparatus that was bankrupted. First of all, that of the municipality in place, whose tragedy reveals the inability to build a housing and anti-poverty policy during its long "reign".

But also that of the old institutional left, whose apparatuses were dissolved in three successive lost elections. As for the new actors carried by national waves, La France insoumise and LRM, they are struggling to anchor themselves locally, while the Rassemblement national, like an endemic disease, seems to benefit from the weakness of the others.

This book is first of all a unique chronicle of this decomposition and its effects on the eve of new municipal elections. Marseilles appears as a city under tutelage, where the State services assume the daily governance to which the local political actors and the petty bourgeoisie they represent seem to have given up.

But this lethargy is opposed by a popular revolt that comes from afar, anchored in the social humus of a precarious but creative youth, carried by the dynamism of the cultural industries and popular solidarity, and supported by a long-standing militant experience.

The resistance is organized like the utopia of a city where the popular worlds have not yet given up on urbanity. This book is also the story of this resistance, sometimes assumed as subjective and partisan.
