Description

The orchestra, how does it work? What are the workings of this strange human and musical community? We perceive it as an undifferentiated mass, but we too often forget that it is a meeting of individuals. Who are the orchestral musicians, these anonymous people who we forget are great musicians? A living paradox - artists but also salaried employees, performers but also performers, aristocrats but also proletarians - is it by vocation or by default that they do this job? How is this highly structured and hierarchical community organised, culminating in the relationship with the conductor?

The orchestra can be heaven or hell; its members are human beings, with their strengths, their shortcomings, their diversities, but when they come together for the same purpose, we are faced with the most magical of inventions.
