Following in the footsteps of Fernand Braudel, Connectivities tells the story of the great port cities of the Mediterranean in the 16th and 17th centuries: Istanbul, Algiers, Venice, Genoa, Seville and Lisbon are the strategic points of a space that saw the birth of modernity, between great empires and globalization. The concept of long duration dear to the historian leads to question the stakes of a sustainable territorial development, through the example of contemporary metropolises and mega-cities, in particular Cairo, Istanbul, Casablanca and Marseille, which are at the heart of connections and flows.
