Description

"The heroes of the fabric are those who have given their health, their freedom and often their lives so that the whole world can wear clothes! Imagine a textile fair that plays with space and time: Karl Lagerfeld, Michael Jordan, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Ötzi, an influencer, Adam Smith, an Indian textile worker, King Arthur... Far from being the result of a few innovations by brilliant inventors, the industrialisation of the world was a long-term process, shaped by inequalities, access to natural resources and social and political struggles. Les héros de l'étoffe offers a dive, under the guidance of Audrey Millet, the historian, and Pétronille Griffon, the archaeologist, into a history that is also the history of humanity, from the Palaeolithic to fast fashion... ABOUT THE AUTHORS : - SÉVERINE LALIBERTÉ, born in Greece, became a citizen of Lyon, then Montpellier and now lives in the Ardèche. For more than twenty years, her profession - she is an archaeologist at the CNRS - has led her to work on numerous excavation sites, from North Africa to the Near East and from the Caucasus to South Asia. She shares this wealth of experience in the form of an (expanded) adventure novel on archaeology for young people (Les Aventures d'Arthur et Eugénie - La tombe du Pharaon oublié, Extrapage, 2019) and a graphic novel (Hippie Trail, autobiographie prénatale, Steinkis, 2020). - AUDREY MILLET has a doctorate in history. A researcher at the University of Oslo, she is a specialist in clothing ecosystems and the author of numerous scientific articles, as well as several books on the subject, including Le livre noir de la mode - Création, production, manipulation (2020) and Les dessous du maillot de bain - Une autre histoire du corps (2021), published by Les Pérégrines, and Fabriquer le désir - Histoire de la mode de l'Antiquité à nos jours (Belin, 2020) - NICOLA GOBBI was born in Ancona, Italy. He studied at the International Comix School in Jesi, and then attended the Comics and Illustration course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. After having produced numerous comic books and children's books in Italy, he published Rouge passé (Steinkis, 2019), Tropiques toxiques (Steinkis/Les Escales, "Témoins du monde", 2020) and Rouges estampes (Steinkis, 2021) in France.
