Charles Eames

Charles Eames is one of the most eminent designers in the furniture history of the 20th century. After studying architecture at the Washington University, he worked for Trueblood & Graf in Saint Louis, and then travelled to Europe. In 1941, he married Ray Kaiser, student in painting at the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. Their common works using plywood and fiberglass got so successful that Charles Eames was exhibited at the MoMA in 1946 (the name of Ray Eames was not stated). Amongst their most known creations we can mention the Eames Storage Units (1950), the famous leather deck chair in black and pink (1956), the Sofa Compact (1954) and double seats for airports (1962). From 1947 to 1949, the Eames constructed their famous prefab house with an open plan in Santa Monica. It had a tremendous success and is still nowadays the star of its kind.
