Description
Between 1916 and 1921, Picasso collaborated on four shows by Sergei Diaghilev for which he designed sets and costumes: the ballets Parade (1917), Tricorne (1919), Pulcinella (1920), and Cuadro Flamenco (1921). This experience exposed the painter to the language of the body and dance, inspiring new formal possibilities, which he mixed with elements borrowed from puppet theatre, commedia dell'arte, sacred art and Spanish folklore. This exhibition catalogue brings together works by the artist (paintings, drawings, sketches, models, costumes) and objects from the Mucem's collections to show how Picasso assimilated and reinterpreted the figurative traditions of his time, placing them at the centre of a new modernity.Product information
