Description
French monarch best known, Louis XIV (1638-1715), called "the Great" or "the sun king" reigned over France and Navarre from 1643 to 1715; this is one of the longest reigns in European history. After the death of Mazarin, he personally assume the government of the kingdom will exercise an iron hand "absolute monarchy". Keen on art and architecture, the Palace of Versailles with gardens remains his most extraordinary achievement.
