Biography:
Ahmet Altan was born in 1950, he lives in Istanbul. His success is immense in Turkey and his books are translated in several countries. Accused of having participated in the failed putsch of July 15, 2016, Ahmet Altan was incarcerated since September 2016 in the prison of Silivri (70 kms from Istanbul). On Friday, February 16, 2018, he was convicted along with five other people including his brother, the journalist Mehmet Altan, of attempting to "overthrow the order provided for by the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey or to replace it with another order or to have impeded its practical functioning by means of force and violence." He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
