Description

The study of taxonomies, their relation to social organization and more generally to culture, constitute classical questions in anthropology. Since Mauss, Durkheim or Lévy-Bruhl, it is well of the cultural variability of the categorizations that we are talking about. This file tackles, in an interdisciplinary way, the problem of the adequation of the ideal and the real, by privileging the study of misunderstandings, misunderstandings, misunderstandings. How to recognize an object, an image, a person? What is the origin of the misalignment of categories to the things they should be able to circumscribe? In spite of everything, how is recognition, that is, the identification of a natural or social object, until it is included in a pre-existing conceptual grid? How then does the table of indigenous categories behave when it has to integrate the unpublished, the singularity or the radical novelty, without exploding? From the Amazon to the Solomon Islands, via Europe and Dahomey, it is with a glance on the eyes that the authors agree us here.
