Description
Summary :Born of a Syrian father and a Breton mother, Riad Sattouf grew up in Tripoli, Libya, where his father had just been appointed professor. Coming from a poor background, he was obsessed with politics and pan-Arabism. Abdel-Razak Sattouf raised his son Riad in the cult of the great Arab dictators, symbols of modernity and virile power. In 1984, the family moved to Syria and joined the Sattouf family cradle, a small village near Homs.
Badly treated by his cousins (he is blond, that doesn't help...), the young Riad discovers the harshness of the traditional peasant life. His father, on the other hand, has only one idea in mind: that his son Riad goes to Syrian school and becomes a modern and educated Arab, an Arab of the future.
