The largest forest on the planet, the Amazon is much more than an ecosystem. Its exceptional biological richness is matched only by its prodigious cultural diversity, marked by 350 peoples and some 300 different languages. This plural and living space is home to a multitude of human and non-human beings: indigenous peoples, foreigners, animals, plants, spirits... All participate in a constant weaving of relationships and connections.

Far from the romantic vision of a virgin forest rooted in immemorial traditions, 'Amazônia. Indigenous Creations and Futures' offers a unique perspective on the Amazon, as seen by its inhabitants themselves, revealing the richness of its interconnected worlds. Two hundred works, notably from the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, bring together historical collections, contemporary art and intangible arts, bearing witness to the contemporaneity of Amazonian cultures across time and space, and highlighting other conceptions of beauty and history.

This book invites us to rethink the Amazon not as a backdrop, but as a vibrant and resilient cultural space - a call to recognise its voices, its histories, its multiple futures.
